Planner 17.0

A unified, cohesive, intelligent planning system that bridges the realm of cardinal and digital productivity journals and task planners.

What is It?

Planner 17.0 is a vision for the next generation of planning, goal setting, habit tracking, and productivity management. It will combine the best features of paper and digital planning and habit tracking to enable a more functional and insightful system for managing time, goals, and life.

What Does it Do?

Once complete, the Planner 17.0 platform will be a dynamic planning system that will reflect its users individual needs and goals to create a personalized, insightful system to empower the user to be and do more.

Backstory

This ongoing project is based on my own frustration with both paper and digital planning, journaling, task, habit, and reminder systems. So, I decided to design and develop a system that would embrace the best parts of each format and take the concept a step forward with machine learning input to provide effective and helpful feedback to the user.

The system would combine hardware and software to scan journal pages out of a hand-written paper notebook, analyze data, and draw or print the next day’s customized planner page, set reminders and take direction, and provide insights and feedback.

Planner 17.0 will adapt to the user’s personal preferences, such as providing customized time tracking blocks, formats, and feedback content. Daily or weekly sections for action items, habits, and goals in whatever style and format works for the user.

Scanned pages will be stored in the cloud to provide anywhere accessibility from any registered device, and include OCR to create a searchable record, with learning capabilities to read user writing and reproduce it when creating new pages or lists.

Each user’s planner will learn as it gathers data to suggest changes for the task tracking or journal page setup based upon actual user inputs, provide insights on selected parameters, and take actions based on user preferences. Additionally, it will provide similar day and year-over-year comparisons on selected and aggregate data.

Planner 17.0 will ensure all updates and notes are captured, including editing and updating previously scanned pages or calendar days and pulling items from linked calendars to migrate events and add appointments, tasks, and deadlines to upcoming days and task lists.

Specific symbols will cue the system to tag information pulled from each page and reorganized into discrete data sets accessible from the app, which be migrated into the paper journal, using the pen plotter or printer. This functionality will enable tracking and insight on tasks an habits, such as hydration, exercise, moods food, energy, and productivity, to identify patterns, a provide progress reports and predictive feedback.

The planner app will offer plugins to track or analyze user identified factors, with enough computing power to build correlations and support deep learning.

The user will be able to decide if they want to separate their professional and personal lives, or keep them side-by-side in a single paper and virtual journal. Also, the app will offer social features - allowing users to connect their online personal or business life to manage meetings and events, suggest articles or posts, enable sharing, and facilitate connecting with colleagues or friends.

The vision for the finished planer is to be a fully functional, supportive, insightful virtual assistant that combines the best of paper based planning and journaling with digital time management, planning, habit tracking, and machine learning - with all the efficiency, data, and analytics the age of technology has to offer.
